Apple TV, 2021 iPad Pro, iOS 14.4 Release

Hi everyone Aaron here for Zollotech and this  is your news update for December 27th 2020. the  previous week brought with us some new information  about upcoming apple TV and more so I wanted to go  year should be filled with a lot of great new  things such as new iPhones like we get every year  iPod’s and more and the first thing is according to  digitimes we should see a new iPods with mini led  a mini led backlit display coming in the first  three months or first quarter of 2021 so just  and apparently according to digit times it will be  a mini led based display we’ve heard these rumors  for quite some time and instead of just having  a traditional led backlight they would have  mini led which should be more power efficient  give you better dark in different areas so you  could have better different zones and things for  different bright and darks and so we could have  a much better display instead of oiled I think  apples really going to focus on mini led and  about an upcoming apple car and I really don’t  know that apples actually making a car right  now they’re probably working on something and it  seems like according to many different sources  Reuters Ming chin quo and others we could see  an apple car anywhere between 2021 and 2028.

Apple TV, 2021 iPad Pro, iOS 14.4 Release
So  I really wouldn’t get your hopes up on an apple  car if you were looking forward to something it  doesn’t mean apples not working on something but  they may just be working on software for automated  it looks like it’s going to be many years before  we see anything like that now when it comes to the  next iPhone’s we continuously hear different things  this is not the next iphone this is just sort of a  prototype unit of what maybe iphone 12 was  supposed to look like but maybe ios or iphone 13  and ios 15 will have something to do with four  cameras but I don’t think that’s going to look  like this anyway we should see Wi-Fi 6e  support with the next iphone basically  what that means is it just adds an additional  band of frequencies that you can use for Wi-Fi  many devices are on Wi-Fi now it’s getting sort of  clogged we had 2.5 gigahertz and then 5 gigahertz  well Wi-Fi 6e supports 6 gigahertz so it just sort  of frees up some spectrum.

So if you have a lot of  devices maybe you’re getting close to 50 devices  at home on your Wi-Fi network it helps with less  interference and things like that when there’s  other devices nearby whether you’re in a business  or somewhere else so we should see that hopefully  along with 120 hertz displays on the next iphone  which I think it would be interesting if apple  didn’t include that I would be very surprised  if all of apples displays weren’t 120 hertz  very soon now back in July of 2020 apple had a  new sign up for a security research program where  they would send out an iphone that was basically  completely unlocked so security researchers could  find any vulnerabilities and help apple patch  those people.

That were accepted into the security  program and some people should have those so while  ios is very secure to begin with it looks like it  could be getting a lot more secure in the future  now that’s not great for the jailbreak  community as it would be more and more  difficult to actually do that in the future but  I think security outweighs that in my opinion  and apple giving widgets and things like that and  making it more customizable in the future I think  is going to not be what people would want if you  can’t do that to your devices but either way I look forward to even more secure devices in 2021  now according to a post on twitter from bob burrow  these are some photos of the original iPhone’s  being manufactured I thought this was kind of  interesting and you might enjoy this so here are  the first generation iPhone’s being manufactured  in a factory when they rolled out back in 2007 so  that’s such a long time ago it seems like now and  we’ve come a long way with iPhone’s and also apple  watch here’s another one from apple watch showed  off from apple demo showing what appears to be an  early prototype of an apple watch so when apples  working on it.

Apple TV, 2021 iPad Pro, iOS 14.4 Release
It’s sort of in its own casing so  you can’t see its final design but it has running  software on it so that was pretty interesting  as well now according to mark German apple TV  and maybe more of a focus on gaming so we’ve got  a lot of different things with the app store and  interesting year for that and then of course  maybe even 8k support there’s no news about that  there aren’t really a whole lot of 8k videos out  there but I would love to see it future-proofed  remote I actually like it I know a lot of people  don’t but a new remote I’m sure would be welcome  and if apple can improve upon it I would welcome  that as well so that’s something we should see  or you have purchases in that game apple takes  thirty percent of whatever that fee is so if  its ten dollars they’ll take three dollars of  that ten dollars now if you’re a small developer  there’s now an application where if you make under  a million a year they’ll take fifteen percent  instead of thirty percent.

So if you have an app  that sells a million per year they’ll only take  15 now if you sign up and they accept you into  that so I think that’s good for smaller developers  and it’s a welcome change I’m sure for many so it  helps with that profit margin for those to expect with that ios 14.3 for the home pod has  been rolled out and if you have that some people  are noticing that you can actually use a 18 watt  adapter instead of the included 20 watts so maybe  you wanted to use the 20 watt with an iphone  you could swap it out now where it wouldn’t  work before so you need a 20 watt adapter that was  included if you have that adapter now you can use  not only apples 18 watt but other supported 18  watt adapters as well with your home pod mini so  home pod mini and you want to use the 20 watt  adapter for your phone you can swap that out  now there’s been a lot of news about Facebook  getting upset with apple about its privacy policy  and not allowing it to track where you’re going  across the web and basically what that means is  apple is putting in measures to prevent  cross-site tracking and they mention this  with the release of ios 14 but postpone that to  get people ready for that and now Facebook’s been  complaining about that because they’re starting  to implement it and people running ios 14.4 beta 1.

So if you’re maybe running Facebook or Instagram  or any app that wants to see where you’re going  next apple will now block that with 14.4 and we  should see that with the release of 14.4 so apple  has said they would enable this at the beginning  of 2021 and it looks like they’re going to do that  so with these betas it seems like they’re doing  that and speaking of betas ios 14.4 beta 2 well  were sort of waiting for that because were in  the vacation cycle or the holiday cycle from apple  so if we go into calendar and we  take a look at well todays the 28th  I wouldn’t expect apple to roll anything out  until at least the week of the third now they  may wait until the week of the 10th like they  did previously or last year with ios 13.4 updates.

But we may not see a beta until then but hopefully  we see a different update maybe a 14.3.1 where it  brings that privacy here and some more fixes ios  14.3 still has quite a few bugs many people are  complaining about battery life and other things  with a little bit of stuttering when you close  apps sometimes and so I would like to see them  push out maybe a small minor update hopefully  in a week or so and then bring the betas up to  maybe a final in February or march apple last year  released it in march so we may have until then for  them to get it right but hopefully they release a  life for those experiencing issues with that  vie mentioned battery life issues on my iPods  vie completely reinstalled the ios to see  what it’s like so well have to wait and see  but hopefully its better with 14.4 and we can  look forward to that hopefully within a week or so  that now there’s been many rumors and information  leaked about the upcoming apple glasses the  apples working on augmented reality where you  can use your camera basically to overlay things  or use maybe glasses to do the same thing now  in a new patent discovered by patently apple.

Apple TV, 2021 iPad Pro, iOS 14.4 Release
They’ve uncovered one that mentions the use of  hand gestures to control some aspects of the  user interface so everything from maybe grabbing  a virtual object with your hand and then moving  it to another hand or maybe closing an app by  pinching or swiping there could be hand gestures  to do that if you’ve used an oculus you can kind  of do the same sort of thing with an oculus quest  and it wouldn’t surprise me if apple implemented  that in glasses however it would have to have  usually gets the interface part right so it would  be really interesting to see what this is like  and I can’t wait for them to release whether  or not well see those in 2021 is hard to say  but hopefully we see something or at least a  mention of them or something along those lines  now for those of you using air pods max i really  enjoy mine will have a review of those fairly soon  water field design came up with this case because a  lot of people don’t like the case that comes with  the air pods max water field design came up with  their own case so that you can put them in this.

It’s available now so maybe I’ll get my hands on  one I’m not sure but either way they have a case  if you don’t like the ones with your air pods  max now finally if you’re using one of the new  m1 MacBook’s or the m1 mac mini or any of those  and you’re plugging it into an ultra-wide monitor  many people are having issues with resolution  now I actually have an ultra-wide monitor and  haven’t seen this myself but certain people are  experiencing this apple has said they’re aware  and a fix is coming to take care of that so  hopefully we’ll see something with that fairly  soon maybe within a couple weeks along with  maybe a minor ios update so hopefully we’ll  see something along those lines and of course if  there’s updates.

The AdLib Gold Experience

Greetings folks, and today on LGR I am proud to present the fabled AdLib Gold 1000 Stereo Sound Adapter. An IBM PC-compatible sound card which, after multiple delays, launched at a suggested price of $299 in the US sometime in late 1992. More or less, its release is a bit complicated but we’ll get to that. For now lemme just go ahead and say how much I’m freak in’ out with excitement recording this footage. Cuz dude, seeing an AdLib Gold in person, still in the box, unused? Among retro PC enthusiasts, that’s like finding a golden unicorn that craps diamonds, it’s just not a thing. Yet here it is, looking’ spiffy! And it’s all thanks to Trixter, aka Jim Leonard of The Old-school PC, Check out his YouTube channel if you’re into this kind of thing too, the man’s a fountain of knowledge and some of the items in his collection are literally one of a kind. Not the least of which being this pristine AdLib Gold 1000, a card that I’ve been wondering about ever since I was eight years old lookin...

Apple Keyboard Evolution 1983-2015

I don’t have a Lisa Keyboard, and they’re quite rare and expensive. But here’s what it looked like, it was quite large and clunky. Although not really any wider than a modern Apple keyboard . So, this is the original Macintosh keyboard. It’s kind of tall, and notice that it has no arrow keys, no function keys and no number pad. Apparently, Steve Jobs believed that everybody would use the mouse for everything, except typing. It uses an RJ-11 type connector, similar to a phone cord. The mouse actually had its own separate connector, and did not connect to the keyboard at all. This is about as basic as it gets. I can plug my telephone into it, for some reason. So, one thing I noticed about this is that there are no indicators on where to put your fingers. I’ve never heard a keyboard echo before. It’s not real springy or anything. It does have… …metallic kind of noise to it. But, DAVID: This is the Apple Desktop Bus keyboard. As the name suggests, this was the first keyboard to use the new...

IBM 8516 Touchscreen CRT Monitor

Greetings and welcome to LGR Oddware where were taking a look at hardware and software that is odd, forgotten, and obsolete! And today it is the IBM 8516 CRT touchscreen from the beginning of the 1990s. And yeah you can touch and draw and do all kinds of things that you would normally do with a mouse or light pen or whatever else -- just with your fingers! And so let’s see what this thing is and what it can do. All right so this is the IBM PS/2 Model 8516 13-inch CRT touchscreen monitor first introduced in June of 1991 for a suggested retail price of $1695 US dollars, holy crap. That would be almost $3,100 at the time of this recording, not a cheap price for a 13-inch VGA monitor back then.  It was built by IBM to be compatible with PCs running DOS, Windows 3 -- and IBM OS/2 of course, because they were still pushing it rather hard when this came out. And as advanced and awesome as it was for its time it was not the first of its kind as far as touchscreen CRTs, not by a long shot....

The best gaming laptop for MS-DOS games

The other day, I used to be reading this old Computes Gazette magazine from 1983. and that I saw this card you'll send off for more information. happen if I filled it out and sent it off? Well, stick around till the top and I'll show you the result. Most of the time, stepping into Retro Gaming are often quite challenge. Even the old Atari 2600 her, for instance, it are often very challenging to seek out a contemporary TV or monitor that you simply. On the brilliant side, the games are pretty easy to affect. All you've got to try to to is locate them online, or thrift shop, or whatever and you purchase the sport, and you recognize, But, things get even harder once you start watching old computers. For instance, the Commodore 64 uses a disk format that's essentially foreign today.  It's no means to attach to the web, and albeit you've got a pile of blank disks, getting the games copied over to them from the web could be a nightmare. Now, if you fast forward just a...

Strangest Computer Designs of the '80s

OMG Mr. LGR!!! You made my day showing the Seiko computer watch series. I collect these things and Have almost  the entire lineup up including the weird UC-2200. The only one I'm missing is the "wrist mac" which was essentially a Seiko RC4400 but marketed and sold for Apple. It could be considered the first apple watch! That design for the Elwro-800 actually seems pretty good and I wish I had it for the C64 back in the day. That wire holder could have been used for holding a computer magazine with a user made program which they always had in the magazines back in the day. Even now it would be good for data input from a written copy, or even writers who like to get their pre-writing done on paper. They were the machines we were taught Turing language on -- and compiling even a tiny Turing program on them was unbelievably slow.  I really liked the GUI on them though, but we never really used the GUI much; all the programming we did was in a text file run through a compiler ...

The Advantech I.Q. Unlimited with BASIC and a Z80 CPU.

Hello, and welcome back to the 8-Bit Guy. In this episode, I want to show you this bizarre little computer known as the IQ Unlimited by Advantech. Now, you might be wondering “What is this company Advantech?” Well, if you turn the computer over you’ll see it was actually produced by Video Technology Electronics, otherwise known as V-Tech.” Yes, that’s the same V-Tech that has produced tons of cordless telephones, kids learning computers, baby monitors, and a variety of other things. They are also the ones that built the Laser 128, which was an Apple II clone, along with the matching Laser XT which was a PC clone. They also produced the laser line of portable computers, and even a series of proprietary desktop computers that carried the laser brand name. So, needless to say V-Tech is no stranger to making computers. But, I think this may be the strangest one they ever made. The front of the box claims it to be complete, powerful, simple, and affordable. They are also those that built th...

Words of Krom Ngoy

Words of Kram Ngoy This Brahma song is translated to tell Khmer men and women To be mindful should be diligent. Do not be lazy, do not be too stupid, try to learn numbers, learn the alphabet Learn all the virtues, supernatural wisdom combined with ideas. Born to see through, even from afar           Really good at thinking about everything. Fools do not wake up like blind people on both sides           There is no image of a cheap sinner born ignorant. The human race, though high and low, descended from the Pao clan.           Evil, good, black and white, cut off descendants like ancestors. Ignorant people are not venerated as a religion           The monks know the Dharma, the students study hard. The ignorant breed is not very wise, the crooked breed is not very gentle           Straight seed until the true seed does not disappear. Innoc...

Fast roaming OpenWrt Wi-Fi Access points

Before we start let me do a test. I have my  phone here which measures my Wi-Fi speed and  another phone which I use as a camera in  the other hand. I start on the 2nd floor  where I have an access point. As you can see speed  is quite OK. It won’t go much higher because I  capped it. I’ll explain in a second. Let me start  moving towards the staircase to the 1st floor.  As I do that you can see that the speed goes  down while I walk down the stairs until it starts  moving back up because I picked up the signal  from the 2nd access point here on the first floor.  Let me keep moving down to the basement. It’s  all concrete here so Wi-Fi gets weakened a lot.   But it doesn’t take long until I  get closer to the 3rd access point  here in the basement and speed picks up.  Walking back upstairs - same scenario.  How do I do that so seamlessly without  interruption of signal ? Is it a  Mes...

Will Kill Your Computer

Hey guys, this is Austin, and this is the USB Killer. Now, it might not look like much, however this will straight up kill your computer. So, this is a device that’s used to test hardware, so while it looks like an ordinary USB device, instead, there’s a series of capacitors inside. So, if you plug it into a computer, it will charge those capacitors up, and once they’re full it turns around and releases all of that power at 240 volts straight back into the computer, in theory killing it. It doesn’t take much to be able to pop this thing open. Now, before we proceed: Do not try this at home. Seriously. Not only is it very possible for this thing to kill electronics, but it’s also. And by being careful, I mean don’t try this at home. We have an Asus Chrome book.  Now, USB Killer claims that this is going to work on around 95 percent of computers, and the reason for that is that while some computers have properly capped USB ports, most have completely unprotected ports, which means th...
