iOS 14.4 release, AirPods and more, iPhone 13, iPhone SE Plus, Foldable iPhones

Hi everyone,

This  past week has been filled especially today with  a lot of interesting news and so the first thing  is iphone 12 pro max and iphone 12 have this  millimeter wave antenna on the side but a lot of  countries don’t get that in fact this is sort of  exclusive to the united states right now however  apple supposedly ordered a bunch of new millimeter  wave components as well as sort of securing  a new supplier to provide those components  so that means that they’ll either come a little  bit later in iphone 12 pro or 12 pro max models  or may come into play when the iphone 13  comes out so we may be seeing those later  on but either way.

That’s good it means it’s  coming to more countries for those of you that have the 5g millimeter wave availability in your  area now according to Ming chin quo the iphone se  plus is still in the works so the iphone  se plus is said to be sort of the same  size as the iphone 6s plus or the iphone 8 plus  but instead of being rounded off like this and  sort of having the touch id sensor on the front  and these huge bezels apparently.

It’s going to  be more full screen like the iphone 12 pro  max something along those lines where the  power or sleep wake button becomes the fingerprint  sensor now we saw this in the new ipad air where  they have a power button that you just put your  thumb on we’ve seen other manufacturers do this  so that seems to make a lot of sense to me and it  would be nice just for the iphone 12 series phones  to have that as well it would be great to have  that on your power button just to quickly unlock  if you don’t have the ability to use  face id so that would be great to see  now the next thing is air tags now a lot of people  are saying why are you still mentioning air tags  it’s a rumor it’s not there well its actually in  the code of ios 14 betas and ios 14.3 actually has  it in the code ready to go using find my it just  hasn’t been activated yet and according to john  presser this is what they’ll look like according  to some internal leaks he had from an engineer  supposedly.

iOS 14.4 release, AirPods and more, iPhone 13, iPhone SE Plus, Foldable iPhones

So they’ll look like these round discs  and you’ll be able to put them in a backpack  locate them and they just haven’t launched because  apparently we haven’t needed them yet since many  people have been in their homes and not out and  about but eventually you could have those tags put  them in your backpack and then they sort of bounce  off relaying between different apple products to  tell you where your product is should you lose it  or to tell you where your backpack is or wherever  you’ve placed the air tag so that’s something I  think we’ll see with find my fairly soon you’ll  have a new tab at the bottom apparently for air  tags to locate your devices so that would be  really nice to see that and I look forward to it  if that’s something that comes out I think its just delayed but it’s definitely in the code it’s  there I’ve seen it myself they’ve mentioned it.

It’s just a matter of time before it comes out and  according to Ming chin quo it should be coming out  in 2021 now he said that it’ll be coming out along  with the mini led displays and mini led is the  next sort of move forward from led and that should  be in the ipad so we should see that in the ipads  I’ve mentioned this many times before it should  help with better backlighting and possibly battery  life overall so hopefully we’ll see something  like that and then maybe roll out to all the  different displays and its sort of the next step  until we get to micro led which is sort of the  thing after oiled so were sort of working toward  that mini led will be next and we should see that  hopefully in upcoming ipads fairly soon now the  iphone 13 and this is not an iphone 13 this was  just sort of a mock-up of the 12 that actually  runs android I’ve shown it in a different video.

But apparently the iphone 13 series will all  have the lidar sensor that the 12 pro max has so  you’ll have the ability to use it for augmented  reality scan different rooms things like that  and supposedly well see that with this particular  upcoming phone so the iphone 13 series will have  lidar supposedly in all of them not only for  augmented reality but auto focus as well so.

It’d be great to see that be able to use that  and with augmented reality again Ming chin quo is  saying that we should see not only those air tags  not only mini led displays but also an augmented  reality device meaning that you could use your  phone whether that be through the camera to  overlay augmented reality but a separate device  such as maybe glasses or something like that  but he just says device he doesn’t say glasses  so maybe there’s something else in the works.

It’s hard to say at this point but we  could see something soon like that now also  apple is still working on foldable phones  and according to the economic daily news  apple has completed design testing for two new  foldable designs one of them would be similar to  dual screens where you would fold them unfold them  and then it would be more seamless across the edge  similar to what the Microsoft duo has but more of  a seamless edge where you could use both screens

but then they’re also working on one like the  galaxy fold so it would be a singular flexible  display that they’re working on now these are in  the works apples testing them durability testing  hinges and things like that and according  to foxconn who is the supplier or at least  someone in foxconn they’ve durability tested these  and they’re through their first phase now this is  just from the supply chain leaks this is not from  apple themselves but usually this is spot on as far as them actually testing things whether or not.

iOS 14.4 release, AirPods and more, iPhone 13, iPhone SE Plus, Foldable iPhones

They’ll eventually come to market is hard to say  but we probably won’t see those for another couple  years if we do see them so apple is working on  them but it’ll be a little bit now a lot of you  have been asking me when to expect ios 14.3.1 to  fix some bugs or maybe 14.4 beta 2 and a final  version of 14.4 and what I had to do is go back  a couple years to see what apple has done because  they don’t officially announce anything as far as  when they’re releasing updates unless it’s a major  update and they’ve told a few different sources.

However this year it’s hard to say because two  years ago in 2019 apple released ios 12.1.3 beta  3 on January 7th that was actually a Monday in  2020 they released it on January 14th with 13.3.1  beta 2. so that means we could see an update  this week or next week based on that information  either way I would say we would see one it would  really surprise me.

I think this time around if we  don’t see one sometime this week whether that be  tomorrow or later in the week but at the latest I  would think the week of the 10th somewhere  in there that we would see an update its  possible apple could push it out even further but  I think we’ll see at least a beta update by then  so that we can get things sort of nailed down  with this update 14.4 beta 1 hasn’t been great  and many of you ask about my battery life  and that has not been great on this beta so.

This particular beta I’m not getting great battery  life at all maybe six hours to seven hours of  screen on time where I would normally get 10 to  12 when I had 14.3 for example so it is a beta  I don’t expect amazing battery life from it but  hopefully we’ll see something in the future with  that now according to digi times apple is also working on smaller chargers using gallium nitride  apparently a supplier has said that they’ve  received orders to use them and what that means is  basically you would get the same power output in  a smaller charger like this anchor charger so this  is an anchor charger this is the power port 3 Nano  and it would give us a smaller footprint overall  and provide the same power output these are super  convenient I’ve used these for quite some time  and ill actually link them in the description  below if you’d like to get your hands on one.

They’re something I use regularly because they’re  convenient small and since the iPhone’s don’t come  with chargers anymore you can just throw these  in a backpack and they take up way less space  than the traditional apple chargers that  we have now so whether it be an 18 watt  like this one or a 20 watt you can have a much  smaller one and I would really like to see apple  at least come out with these and still include  them with their phones but at least come out with some new ones that are usb-c now we’ve all  been waiting for the next generation air pods  whether that be air pods light or air pods pro  light or whatever they’re going to call them.

iOS 14.4 release, AirPods and more, iPhone 13, iPhone SE Plus, Foldable iPhones

But it looks like at least according to mr white  which this is kind of an interesting rumor there  could be two sizes of the next airpods pro so air  pods pro 2 may come in a couple different variants  where you would have maybe this size or something  similar to this and a smaller size for those with  smaller ears I know not everyone finds these to be  very comfortable so it would make sense to offer  a couple different variants just like they do  with the apple watch for example where you could  go back and forth between whichever one works  for you whether or not that will just be a pro  and then maybe a pro light and they’re different  sizes is hard to say but the rumor is kind of  hit or miss maybe but apparently there’s two  different builds that they’re working on for them.

It could just be prototypes that they’re working  on to see which one works best though now finally  apple is apparently working on new keyboards for  their MacBook’s and this wouldn’t nieces necessarily  replace the scissor keyboards per se but  instead you would be able to customize the keys  individually so we’ve seen this before in the past  from art leaded where he actually came out with a  desktop based keyboard where you could change each  key cap individually based on what you want to do.

So what that means is basically you  could change the d w s a or w a s d  to arrow keys and they would show arrow keys on  the display now there’s an advantage to this of  course because you could fully customize your  keyboard but then the disadvantage is it will  use power so maybe they’ll use something like  e-ink but either way patently apple found a patent  where they appear to be working on something like  this apples always testing new ideas and so it  seems to make sense that they could do something  really interesting with that and so that’s it for  this week’s news if an ios update comes out of  course

Apple Keyboard Evolution 1983-2015

I don’t have a Lisa Keyboard, and they’re quite rare and expensive. But here’s what it looked like, it was quite large and clunky. Although not really any wider than a modern Apple keyboard . So, this is the original Macintosh keyboard. It’s kind of tall, and notice that it has no arrow keys, no function keys and no number pad. Apparently, Steve Jobs believed that everybody would use the mouse for everything, except typing. It uses an RJ-11 type connector, similar to a phone cord. The mouse actually had its own separate connector, and did not connect to the keyboard at all. This is about as basic as it gets. I can plug my telephone into it, for some reason. So, one thing I noticed about this is that there are no indicators on where to put your fingers. I’ve never heard a keyboard echo before. It’s not real springy or anything. It does have… …metallic kind of noise to it. But, DAVID: This is the Apple Desktop Bus keyboard. As the name suggests, this was the first keyboard to use the new

The AdLib Gold Experience

Greetings folks, and today on LGR I am proud to present the fabled AdLib Gold 1000 Stereo Sound Adapter. An IBM PC-compatible sound card which, after multiple delays, launched at a suggested price of $299 in the US sometime in late 1992. More or less, its release is a bit complicated but we’ll get to that. For now lemme just go ahead and say how much I’m freak in’ out with excitement recording this footage. Cuz dude, seeing an AdLib Gold in person, still in the box, unused? Among retro PC enthusiasts, that’s like finding a golden unicorn that craps diamonds, it’s just not a thing. Yet here it is, looking’ spiffy! And it’s all thanks to Trixter, aka Jim Leonard of The Old-school PC, Check out his YouTube channel if you’re into this kind of thing too, the man’s a fountain of knowledge and some of the items in his collection are literally one of a kind. Not the least of which being this pristine AdLib Gold 1000, a card that I’ve been wondering about ever since I was eight years old lookin

IBM 8516 Touchscreen CRT Monitor

Greetings and welcome to LGR Oddware where were taking a look at hardware and software that is odd, forgotten, and obsolete! And today it is the IBM 8516 CRT touchscreen from the beginning of the 1990s. And yeah you can touch and draw and do all kinds of things that you would normally do with a mouse or light pen or whatever else -- just with your fingers! And so let’s see what this thing is and what it can do. All right so this is the IBM PS/2 Model 8516 13-inch CRT touchscreen monitor first introduced in June of 1991 for a suggested retail price of $1695 US dollars, holy crap. That would be almost $3,100 at the time of this recording, not a cheap price for a 13-inch VGA monitor back then.  It was built by IBM to be compatible with PCs running DOS, Windows 3 -- and IBM OS/2 of course, because they were still pushing it rather hard when this came out. And as advanced and awesome as it was for its time it was not the first of its kind as far as touchscreen CRTs, not by a long shot.  For

The Advantech I.Q. Unlimited with BASIC and a Z80 CPU.

Hello, and welcome back to the 8-Bit Guy. In this episode, I want to show you this bizarre little computer known as the IQ Unlimited by Advantech. Now, you might be wondering “What is this company Advantech?” Well, if you turn the computer over you’ll see it was actually produced by Video Technology Electronics, otherwise known as V-Tech.” Yes, that’s the same V-Tech that has produced tons of cordless telephones, kids learning computers, baby monitors, and a variety of other things. They are also the ones that built the Laser 128, which was an Apple II clone, along with the matching Laser XT which was a PC clone. They also produced the laser line of portable computers, and even a series of proprietary desktop computers that carried the laser brand name. So, needless to say V-Tech is no stranger to making computers. But, I think this may be the strangest one they ever made. The front of the box claims it to be complete, powerful, simple, and affordable. They are also those that built th

The best gaming laptop for MS-DOS games

The other day, I used to be reading this old Computes Gazette magazine from 1983. and that I saw this card you'll send off for more information. happen if I filled it out and sent it off? Well, stick around till the top and I'll show you the result. Most of the time, stepping into Retro Gaming are often quite challenge. Even the old Atari 2600 her, for instance, it are often very challenging to seek out a contemporary TV or monitor that you simply. On the brilliant side, the games are pretty easy to affect. All you've got to try to to is locate them online, or thrift shop, or whatever and you purchase the sport, and you recognize, But, things get even harder once you start watching old computers. For instance, the Commodore 64 uses a disk format that's essentially foreign today.  It's no means to attach to the web, and albeit you've got a pile of blank disks, getting the games copied over to them from the web could be a nightmare. Now, if you fast forward just a

Strangest Computer Designs of the '80s

OMG Mr. LGR!!! You made my day showing the Seiko computer watch series. I collect these things and Have almost  the entire lineup up including the weird UC-2200. The only one I'm missing is the "wrist mac" which was essentially a Seiko RC4400 but marketed and sold for Apple. It could be considered the first apple watch! That design for the Elwro-800 actually seems pretty good and I wish I had it for the C64 back in the day. That wire holder could have been used for holding a computer magazine with a user made program which they always had in the magazines back in the day. Even now it would be good for data input from a written copy, or even writers who like to get their pre-writing done on paper. They were the machines we were taught Turing language on -- and compiling even a tiny Turing program on them was unbelievably slow.  I really liked the GUI on them though, but we never really used the GUI much; all the programming we did was in a text file run through a compiler

Will Kill Your Computer

Hey guys, this is Austin, and this is the USB Killer. Now, it might not look like much, however this will straight up kill your computer. So, this is a device that’s used to test hardware, so while it looks like an ordinary USB device, instead, there’s a series of capacitors inside. So, if you plug it into a computer, it will charge those capacitors up, and once they’re full it turns around and releases all of that power at 240 volts straight back into the computer, in theory killing it. It doesn’t take much to be able to pop this thing open. Now, before we proceed: Do not try this at home. Seriously. Not only is it very possible for this thing to kill electronics, but it’s also. And by being careful, I mean don’t try this at home. We have an Asus Chrome book.  Now, USB Killer claims that this is going to work on around 95 percent of computers, and the reason for that is that while some computers have properly capped USB ports, most have completely unprotected ports, which means that i

Lost Colony of Roanoke

The broken anchor is pretty sketch. Sounds like the colony might have been wiped out and Smith not wanting to return to England and say "my bad they all died" was able to save face by saying "We have proof they are safe and moved location.  Near the end of the 16th century, a man by the name of John White embarked on a transatlantic voyage. His destination was the island of Roanoke along the southeastern coast of North America. On this island, White had established an English colony some three years before and he was now returning to resume his position as Governor. After a long and difficult journey, White finally reached the site of the colony only to find the more than one hundred men, women, and children had left behind had disappeared. Before White had a chance to conduct a more extensive search, the ship returned to England and in its wake, it left a mystery.  Raleigh was soon thereafter knighted by Queen Elizabeth I and the new land was to be named Virginia in ho

BootSkin XP - A Boot Screen Customization Tool for Windows XP

Hello everybody and welcome back . We’re going to be taking a look at a pretty cool little piece of software for Windows XP, and there’s also a version for Windows Vista, called BootSkin. And this is a little bit of an older program. This was released, I want to say, somewhere in the mid-2000s. This is actually a piece of software that I used on a couple of my Windows XP , and even some my Windows Vista machines like over 10 years ago. It’s been a while since I’ve used this piece of software. But what this software allows you to do is, as you can probably tell by the name, it allows you to skin and customize your Windows boot screen, add a little bit more personality to your system and make your boot screen look more unique so, you know it’s gonna be much different than everybody else’s which just says Windows XP when it boots up. And this is made by a company called StarDock and I’ve used a couple of different StarDock programs before there’s another one of my favorite programs from
