Unboxing, Comparison and Review, Microsoft Surface Earbuds

 Hi everyone,

These are Microsoft’s brand-new surface ear buds and these were just released they come in at $1.99 and you can get them on a discount if you’re a parent a teacher military or a student for about 170 $9.99 if you’re eligible on their website and so these do not have active noise cancellation just like the pixel buds but also ear pods Pro is sort of their competitor along with ear pods so well take a closer look at that in a moment and as you can see here on the back it says they’re up to 24 hours battery life with the charging case so this is pretty typical these days so let’s go ahead and open this up and see what we’ve got inside so well take the wrapper off here and well set these up with the pixel for XL and I also have an iPhone to try it out with those as well so they should work with either/or so inside here is the case well set that aside.

It says everyone’s ear is unique as their fingerprint and it says find your fit scan to get set up and I already installed this audio app so you install the surface I think it’s called the surface audio app they actually says surface there but it’s a surface audio app where you can set it up let’s see what’s inside here it says get connected there’s a little button on the bottom let’s see what we’ve got here and it looks like that’s it so it shows some gestures well go over more of that in a moment so you have a USB a 2 USB C then you have some ear tips so I guess you have a small medium and large so you’ve got small and large here and then inside must be medium let’s see what else we’ve got so we have a little instruction manual and then product and regulatory guide now you’ll see we have some gestures here and it says you can double tap for play pause music answer calls or end a call you can touch and hold on either ear to activate your digital assistant you’ve got swipe up for volume swipe down for volume down swipe forward for next swipe back for previous so.

Unboxing, Comparison and Review, Microsoft Surface Earbuds
That’s really now here are the ear buds themselves in the case and so this is glossy I didn’t think it was glossy on in the video that I saw but it’s pretty nice well open it up and there’s your buds themselves on the back we have USB C to charge with and then on the bottom we’ve got a button to help us pair it so well open this up let’s bring it near the pixel for XL and see if we can pair them you go into the surface audio app as you can see here and well hit connect it says need permission to use your location I guess allow while using the app you have to agree to the terms well wait for it here and it says connecting and it says pair and connect I do want to use contacts and everything so it says pairing and connected so that was pretty simple now let’s take a look at the ear buds themselves.

So here’s one of them there’s a closer look you can see this is the right ear button and you can change these tips out like this so this comes off you can change it out to whichever size you want now inside these have a thirteen point six millimeter driver and so it should have that as well as dual mic arrays to help with phone calls and things like that it should be a little bit better they do look a little odd but I think these should work nice and surface headphones at least the ones before actually sounded pretty good now according to Microsoft they have Omni Sonic drivers as well as Bluetooth 4.1 and 4.2 support with SBC and apt X so there’s some tutorial videos here as well it says find your fit goes over the Tufts gestures will skip and it says there’s an update available.

So I’ll update these try them out for a little bit and see what they sound like and then share some of my views with you now I listen to the surface ear buds for a little while and they sound very good they selling very rich and fall and one thing I really like is they don’t sit in your ear canals they’re very comfortable that way and I hardly notice through there so I definitely could use these for a long time throughout the day they remind me a lot of the sport version of the Bose headphones so those are very comfortable as well they feel basically the same now the sound is very rich fault and I wanted to compare them a little bit with the pixel buds as well as earpods pro and so let me show you how I did that now I actually have the music synced between the surface buds and my right ear and the pixel buds in my left ear.

Unboxing, Comparison and Review, Microsoft Surface Earbuds
They’re synced on the iPhone and the pixel for Excel so I can go back and forth and hear the difference between the two and I definitely can hear a difference but the surface bud sounds more Airy because its more open on the right hand side it’s not sealed in your ear so it sounds a little bit different probably less bass but it sounds good either way now listening between all of them I would say that the surface buds have a nice sound to them because you can hear what’s going on around you but if you want that noise cancellation they’re just not going to have that the bass is more pronounced on the pixel buds and the air pods Pro but the overall sound and vocals sound a little bit better to me on the surface ear buds so it’s more up to really what kind of audio you want to listen to and of course they support AB decks so they have a little bit higher quality audio if you’re using them on an Android device.

For example now as far as the way they look in your ear while the surface ear bud is obviously a little interesting looking some people really like it some people don’t but it’s just this round flat piece which helps with gestures and I’ll show you that in a moment but as far as the surface ear buds verse say earpods Pro in your ear well the earpods Pro it’ll are a little less large I guess on your ear and then compared to say the pixel buds the pixel buds I think have the leas or the least amount of size or intrusiveness as far as the way they look so I like the pixel buds most but as far as comfort I have to give it to the surface ear buds because they don’t touch the inside of your ear canal.

However if you were to lay down on them they’re going to push hard into your ear now as far as the gestures with this it’s really easy to use because you have this large surface so if you double tap it plays music see a played double tap again it pauses if I swipe up or down it changes the volume as you can see there as I’m swiping and then press and hold and you get the assistant on the phone so if it’s on an iPhone its Siri if it’s on an Android phone its Google a sister or whatever assistant you have assigned and I tried that out on either-or so it works really well with that swiping up and down works well and then if we go into the app it’s the same on both Android and iPhone so.

Let’s take a look at the app a little closer now in the app it gives you your percentage your volume and then we have some options as well so if we go to the surface ear buds you can see your paired devices you have an equalizer so you can adjust it for classical jazz pop rock or adjust it however you’d like for more bass or less then you have device controls so you have touch control or optional diagnostic data and then also personalization so you can change the name change the language so you can see you’ve got different languages here for the surface air buds or ear buds and then for firmware updates which I had to do already and then your updates your about in tutorial videos that show you how to use the actual surface ear buds themselves.

Unboxing, Comparison and Review, Microsoft Surface Earbuds
So I showed you this before you can swipe through them and watch those tutorials and you get the same thing on both devices Microsoft says you get 8 hours of playback time as far as audio on the surface ear buds I’m sure that depends on volume and things like that and then you’ve got 24 hours total with the surface case so you just put them in the case to charge it’s pretty simple and straightforward just like any other ear buds at this point put them in there like that and they’ll charge and it works fine and then of course you just plug it into the USB see now I placed a phone call using the surface ear buds and they sounded nice and clear the call was nice and loud I could hear their voice easily and the person on the other end my brother could actually hear me without a problem he didn’t know that I was using ear buds he thought the microphone was right by my mouth so.

That’s a very good sign he heard me with no problem whatsoever now also you could use these for voice dictation in office so if you have office on your computer with office 365 you can use them for voice dictation on a surface device or whatever you have and you can also swipe through PowerPoint presentations using them using the gestures now this is something I personally wouldn’t use but if you want to swipe through them you could I prefer to just use a remote or a clicker to go from next to next but either way you could use these if you’d like to for that and I think there are pretty decent value for what they are but I’d love to hear what you have to say about them in the comments below I think at $1.99 or if you can get that discount they’re a pretty good value as compared to say the pixel buds or the air pods Pro as far as an alternative the air pods I find don’t work well all day long in your ear.

Because if you have it touching the inside of your ear it can become uncomfortable after a while and these I think will take care of that problem so I plan to use these quite a bit and if you have any other additional questions I’d love to answer them in the comments below just let me know and I check the comments regularly now if you’d like to get your hands on the wallpaper.

The AdLib Gold Experience

Greetings folks, and today on LGR I am proud to present the fabled AdLib Gold 1000 Stereo Sound Adapter. An IBM PC-compatible sound card which, after multiple delays, launched at a suggested price of $299 in the US sometime in late 1992. More or less, its release is a bit complicated but we’ll get to that. For now lemme just go ahead and say how much I’m freak in’ out with excitement recording this footage. Cuz dude, seeing an AdLib Gold in person, still in the box, unused? Among retro PC enthusiasts, that’s like finding a golden unicorn that craps diamonds, it’s just not a thing. Yet here it is, looking’ spiffy! And it’s all thanks to Trixter, aka Jim Leonard of The Old-school PC, Check out his YouTube channel if you’re into this kind of thing too, the man’s a fountain of knowledge and some of the items in his collection are literally one of a kind. Not the least of which being this pristine AdLib Gold 1000, a card that I’ve been wondering about ever since I was eight years old lookin...

Apple Keyboard Evolution 1983-2015

I don’t have a Lisa Keyboard, and they’re quite rare and expensive. But here’s what it looked like, it was quite large and clunky. Although not really any wider than a modern Apple keyboard . So, this is the original Macintosh keyboard. It’s kind of tall, and notice that it has no arrow keys, no function keys and no number pad. Apparently, Steve Jobs believed that everybody would use the mouse for everything, except typing. It uses an RJ-11 type connector, similar to a phone cord. The mouse actually had its own separate connector, and did not connect to the keyboard at all. This is about as basic as it gets. I can plug my telephone into it, for some reason. So, one thing I noticed about this is that there are no indicators on where to put your fingers. I’ve never heard a keyboard echo before. It’s not real springy or anything. It does have… …metallic kind of noise to it. But, DAVID: This is the Apple Desktop Bus keyboard. As the name suggests, this was the first keyboard to use the new...

IBM 8516 Touchscreen CRT Monitor

Greetings and welcome to LGR Oddware where were taking a look at hardware and software that is odd, forgotten, and obsolete! And today it is the IBM 8516 CRT touchscreen from the beginning of the 1990s. And yeah you can touch and draw and do all kinds of things that you would normally do with a mouse or light pen or whatever else -- just with your fingers! And so let’s see what this thing is and what it can do. All right so this is the IBM PS/2 Model 8516 13-inch CRT touchscreen monitor first introduced in June of 1991 for a suggested retail price of $1695 US dollars, holy crap. That would be almost $3,100 at the time of this recording, not a cheap price for a 13-inch VGA monitor back then.  It was built by IBM to be compatible with PCs running DOS, Windows 3 -- and IBM OS/2 of course, because they were still pushing it rather hard when this came out. And as advanced and awesome as it was for its time it was not the first of its kind as far as touchscreen CRTs, not by a long shot....

The best gaming laptop for MS-DOS games

The other day, I used to be reading this old Computes Gazette magazine from 1983. and that I saw this card you'll send off for more information. happen if I filled it out and sent it off? Well, stick around till the top and I'll show you the result. Most of the time, stepping into Retro Gaming are often quite challenge. Even the old Atari 2600 her, for instance, it are often very challenging to seek out a contemporary TV or monitor that you simply. On the brilliant side, the games are pretty easy to affect. All you've got to try to to is locate them online, or thrift shop, or whatever and you purchase the sport, and you recognize, But, things get even harder once you start watching old computers. For instance, the Commodore 64 uses a disk format that's essentially foreign today.  It's no means to attach to the web, and albeit you've got a pile of blank disks, getting the games copied over to them from the web could be a nightmare. Now, if you fast forward just a...

Strangest Computer Designs of the '80s

OMG Mr. LGR!!! You made my day showing the Seiko computer watch series. I collect these things and Have almost  the entire lineup up including the weird UC-2200. The only one I'm missing is the "wrist mac" which was essentially a Seiko RC4400 but marketed and sold for Apple. It could be considered the first apple watch! That design for the Elwro-800 actually seems pretty good and I wish I had it for the C64 back in the day. That wire holder could have been used for holding a computer magazine with a user made program which they always had in the magazines back in the day. Even now it would be good for data input from a written copy, or even writers who like to get their pre-writing done on paper. They were the machines we were taught Turing language on -- and compiling even a tiny Turing program on them was unbelievably slow.  I really liked the GUI on them though, but we never really used the GUI much; all the programming we did was in a text file run through a compiler ...

The Advantech I.Q. Unlimited with BASIC and a Z80 CPU.

Hello, and welcome back to the 8-Bit Guy. In this episode, I want to show you this bizarre little computer known as the IQ Unlimited by Advantech. Now, you might be wondering “What is this company Advantech?” Well, if you turn the computer over you’ll see it was actually produced by Video Technology Electronics, otherwise known as V-Tech.” Yes, that’s the same V-Tech that has produced tons of cordless telephones, kids learning computers, baby monitors, and a variety of other things. They are also the ones that built the Laser 128, which was an Apple II clone, along with the matching Laser XT which was a PC clone. They also produced the laser line of portable computers, and even a series of proprietary desktop computers that carried the laser brand name. So, needless to say V-Tech is no stranger to making computers. But, I think this may be the strangest one they ever made. The front of the box claims it to be complete, powerful, simple, and affordable. They are also those that built th...

Words of Krom Ngoy

Words of Kram Ngoy This Brahma song is translated to tell Khmer men and women To be mindful should be diligent. Do not be lazy, do not be too stupid, try to learn numbers, learn the alphabet Learn all the virtues, supernatural wisdom combined with ideas. Born to see through, even from afar           Really good at thinking about everything. Fools do not wake up like blind people on both sides           There is no image of a cheap sinner born ignorant. The human race, though high and low, descended from the Pao clan.           Evil, good, black and white, cut off descendants like ancestors. Ignorant people are not venerated as a religion           The monks know the Dharma, the students study hard. The ignorant breed is not very wise, the crooked breed is not very gentle           Straight seed until the true seed does not disappear. Innoc...

Fast roaming OpenWrt Wi-Fi Access points

Before we start let me do a test. I have my  phone here which measures my Wi-Fi speed and  another phone which I use as a camera in  the other hand. I start on the 2nd floor  where I have an access point. As you can see speed  is quite OK. It won’t go much higher because I  capped it. I’ll explain in a second. Let me start  moving towards the staircase to the 1st floor.  As I do that you can see that the speed goes  down while I walk down the stairs until it starts  moving back up because I picked up the signal  from the 2nd access point here on the first floor.  Let me keep moving down to the basement. It’s  all concrete here so Wi-Fi gets weakened a lot.   But it doesn’t take long until I  get closer to the 3rd access point  here in the basement and speed picks up.  Walking back upstairs - same scenario.  How do I do that so seamlessly without  interruption of signal ? Is it a  Mes...

Will Kill Your Computer

Hey guys, this is Austin, and this is the USB Killer. Now, it might not look like much, however this will straight up kill your computer. So, this is a device that’s used to test hardware, so while it looks like an ordinary USB device, instead, there’s a series of capacitors inside. So, if you plug it into a computer, it will charge those capacitors up, and once they’re full it turns around and releases all of that power at 240 volts straight back into the computer, in theory killing it. It doesn’t take much to be able to pop this thing open. Now, before we proceed: Do not try this at home. Seriously. Not only is it very possible for this thing to kill electronics, but it’s also. And by being careful, I mean don’t try this at home. We have an Asus Chrome book.  Now, USB Killer claims that this is going to work on around 95 percent of computers, and the reason for that is that while some computers have properly capped USB ports, most have completely unprotected ports, which means th...
