The Difference Between Praise and Worship

What is the difference between praise and worship  is there actually a difference between praise and  worship well the words praise and worship are  often used together but here’s the thing though  although they complement one another they are  actually two different things and I say this  way in which we honor the lord so if you have ever  struggled to understand the difference between the  two then you are definitely in the right place  today a dear friend and a sister of mine is here  to join us and she’s going to break things down  for us so over to you girl hi good people um  ira has introduced me as dummy um I don’t have  anything fancy to say about myself I like a simple  life I’ve tried to do up aesthetics for the people  and I’m doing this video from my lovely couch nice  and comfortable I love a good accent whether I’m  good at it I don’t know but don’t be offended  I do them all it just comes out naturally  um I also like to talk too much so you know  I’m only meant to be talking for a certain amount  of time but already I’m looking at the clock and  times ticking so I’m gonna get straight into it  because I don’t want any wahala um when it comes  to wrapping up and I am going to be talking  about like I have said praise and worship um  and kind of what those things mean because I  have the ability to just dissect and dissect  and dissect I’m going to do my best to avoid doing  that and really just simplify it.

So that we can  just get something um together we can all achieve  just a little bit more understanding about what  these things are and maybe just a couple of things  that the bible says about them because each of  those topics so praise and worship they can really  be studied and explored and you can spend time in  the word um and in prayer just trying to discover  more about what it says and what the true um  meaning of those things are so  question okay I won’t do that question when how many people when they think  about um worship do they think about singing and  songs and instruments and now if I am honest way  back in the day because I’m not your age mate um I  when I heard praise when I heard worship this  is how it came across because I sing I sing you  know um it would be damn Lola you know where’s  your prey songs and what they meant by that was  where are your fast paced songs yes your worship  list there’s no praise on this list because if  you know me you know I love the slopes I love a  slow song like oh ill sing all the slow songs.  

I will exactly I love a slow song I don’t really  want to do the fast songs and so that would be  what they say praise songs um and so it’s easy  to just kind of think that that’s what it’s about  that it’s about singing but actually when you look  at worship or when I wanted to kind of understand  worship better or anything in the word for that  matter I like to look at where its first spoken  about and where worship is concerned when we’re  looking at the English translation genesis 22  is the place to go up and for those who won’t  know about it there’s a story about Abraham   has a relationship with god he loves  god um and he has a son after waiting for a very  long time for this specific son that he has been  promised by god and you can imagine you’ve been  asking god for something um and you finally  get it after a really long time and then one  day just like that just something like  this you wake up and god says give it up sorry.

Yeah give it up the extent  to which he had to give up his son  was that he was asked to sacrifice his son on our  main kill him you know that kind of sacrifice  and so he had a trusting relationship with god  so he thought I’m gonna obey I’m going to obey  and so as he journeys to go and make this  sacrifice that is his beloved son he says to the  servant that is with him stay here at the bottom  of this mountain while I and the boy go yonder and  worship I’m pretty sure that wasn’t their accent  but it works for me stay here while the boy and I go yonder and worship and so immediately were  able to kind of squash the worship is singing is an expression of worship its  one expression of worship but that’s not the  totality of it in this scripture this genesis  22 in this relationship with Abraham and god  where he’s worshiping with his son a sacrifice  is being made and so worship is literally about  ascribing god what he is worth what  is god worth to you what is god worth  is he worth your favorite thing is he worth  your time that you say you don’t have any of  is he worth pondering about and thinking  about is he worth consulting about your exams  about your family about your relationship  about your friendships is he worth that and I know that people will begin to  think okay fine so how can I better  worship should I just involve him in everything. 

I’m doing and just start thinking about him I  mean you can but I want to draw  on what the bible calls true worship  it says that true worship is worshiping in spirit  and in truth and its interesting because the only  way to get this truth is by the spirit because  the spirit is the revealer of truth why I think  that’s amazing is because it brings worship back  to being about god and gods ability to work in  you do you understand without the spirit you  can’t effectively worship you can’t effectively  ascribe god the worth that he has how worthy he  is its literally by the spirit its literally by  the renewing of your mind the more you know about  god the more you’re able to ascribe him the worth  that he has the more you’re able to talk about and  express who he is and this could be via song this  could be by a conversation this could be and by  how you relate to your parents how you relate to  your friends how you speak to your teacher how you  engage um in your thoughts what your day-to-day  looks like what you perceive about yourself  because one of the things that Abraham had to  be able to do or something. 

That I believe that he  knew was his own worth before god his identity  in god and because he knew that he was accepted  and treasured and the object of gods affection  he was able to effectively trust his instruction  and therefore able to worship to provide  sacrifice see how at the beginning I said that I  like to go too deep because the time is going  so that’s what I’m gonna say about worship you  need the spirit of the living god to worship  now if I’m moving on to praise even by  English dictionary is about showing admiration for  expressing gratitude and respect so it’s an act of  worship but the scripture that I love to kind of  think about is psalm 22 and 3 where it talks about  um god being enthroned on the praises of Israel  and when you’re looking in the word and you’re  looking at the Levites and you know their mandate  to sing they were given instructions to sing to  invoke joy to invoke praise and thanksgiving to  invoke a gratitude a respect and admiration for  god and so when you tie in with the scripture in  psalm 22 when you are praising when you are  expressing this joy and this gratitude with  your mouth with your body in every way possible  you are literally causing god to sit in a place  with a position of authority you are allowing  him to execute judgment on a situation when I express gratitude and praise I’m saying god I trust your authority and control over a situation  I trust that you are seated in heavenly places  and able to make a decision so I will praise.  

You I will express joy and thanksgiving I will do these things and that’s where I’m  gonna keep it I’m gonna keep  that’s the  simplicity of this praise and this worship  praise is an expression or an act of worship  but all that you do can be an act of worship everything that you do can be an act of worship  how do you ascribe worth to god in your next  thought in your next breath  in the next thing that you do that’s the question now maybe I’ve  simplified it oversimplified it but I feel  like that’s where we need to start so I’m going  to say one last thing about um you know what I’ve  said about worship before everyone tries to go  and you know write down okay this is what I need  to do tomorrow I need to wake up at this time I  need to do this I need to do something to do this  in order to worship god it starts with the spirit  of god even effectively praising even effectively  expressing that gratitude and respect for god  the burden of true worship is on the spirit of  the living god this is so funny I thought to  myself you can worship aliexpress you can worship  you’re here your wig you can worship your  television you can worship your family. 

 you can even worship and idolize the way that you  do things but effectively ascribing worth to god  and worshiping him is by the spirit of god why  because the spirit is the revealer of all truth  the truth that is spoken about when it says  that true worshipers will worship in spirit  and in truth oh my god my time is up I hope  that that has been helpful um in some way  and I hope you will know that you know as you go  to sleep and as you go about your day and as you  said go to sleep as you go about your  day as you wake up whatever you’re doing allow the holy spirit to give instruction  and acknowledge the holy spirit and know that in  that you are worshiping god so that’s all I have  to say today um it’s a pleasure to be invited onto  ayah our toners channel um she’s doing fantastic  things this is all about you know linked with  her book a young woman’s guide to seeking god  and so here you come to this channel to learn  about things in a very simple way to just you know  answer some of the questions that you might have  in mind so make sure you do ask questions make  sure you watch some of these um these videos or  all of her videos just about how you navigate this  relationship with god as a young woman as a young  person .
