Unboxing, Chargers and Everything you wanted to know

Hi everyone,

And this is  the magsafe duo so let’s go ahead and unbox it  get my unboxing knife here there’s no pull  tab like a lot of the other apple boxes and let’s go ahead and open it up so here’s the magsafe duo well unfold this I  like these boxes since they don’t have a lot of  packaging in them it’s just easy to get them  in and out well set that aside and this is  the magsafe duo now this comes in at 129 but  it doesn’t come with a charger so its 129.  here’s the box and then it shows you that it  folds up and you need a 20 watt adapter minimum  so let’s go ahead and open this  up so well take the wrapper off let’s open the box here and inside we have the charger here so we’ve  got magsafe on one side the watch charger on  the other well take a closer look at that in a  moment we’ve got a little bit of paperwork here.

So safety and handling regulatory compliance  and warranty summary put these away and then  we have a cable so we get a usbc to lightning  cable which is a little bit strange I thought  it be usbc to usbc but its usbc to  lightning so let’s go ahead and unwrap this well put the box aside and let’s take a  closer look at the charger now this has a  little bit of a wrapper on it let me take this off a little bit of a wrapper on  it as well this side folds up  take the wrapper off this side folds up so that  you can charge your apple watch either lying flat  or standing up you’ve got your magsafe on one side  and then a lightning cable lightning port which  is really surprising to me I forgot about this  I thought it be usbc and then it closes like  this it has an apple logo on one side and just  the metal piece on the other now the material of  this charger feels like apple silicone maybe like  a silicone case but a little bit less gripe it  has a smoother texture to it it’s not stitched  or anything on the outside its sort of just  molded plastic it looks like or sort of a rubbery  feel you see I can push it over like this so.

Unboxing, Chargers and Everything you wanted to know
It’s kind of a rubberized feel it seems like it’ll  grip fine on a table but it does slide a little  but it’s not as gripe as say the silicone apple  cases now let’s take a look at the magnets inside  so we’ve got it looks like a lot more magnets  than I thought so it looks like you’ve got four  magnets plus the mag safe and then a magnet off  to the side and then on the other side you have  the same sort of thing a magnet in the center of  the apple watch charger a magnet on the side and  four magnets to go along with it to hold it shut  on the other side you can see the same magnets  so that’s a little bit of a surprise I didn’t  expect that lets go ahead and open it up  and if we place the watch on it now only  one side will charge the watch the watch  has a different sort of compatibility as  far as charging it’s not qi compatible.

So you fold this up and if you have a band like  this loop here you just set it into place like  that and then again if you don’t have the loop  on I guess you could set it down face down if  you have a different sort of watch band so maybe  you’re using a watch band that loops back and then  plugs into itself you can use that as well so  let me go ahead and plug this in now well plug  In one side which is wherein it gets a touch bit thrilling such a lot like your normal magsafe you want to use a 20 watt or higher charger to urge the utmost out of this but just in case you employ apples 20 watt charger which is sold separately this 20 watt charger this will feel the maximum amount as eleven watts with the magsafe now that’s faster than regular qi wireless  chargers 7.5 watts is pretty typical for iPhones.

But it will charge up to 11 watts because you’re  splitting power between both of them however if  you use 27 watt or higher usb c adapters and again  sold separately such as that that comes with the  MacBook air this is the 30 watt adapter apple says  27 water higher which they don’t sell at 27 watt  but this is a 49 adapter it will charge up to  14 watts with the magsafe connector so let’s  go ahead and try a couple of them so well plug  this in and again plug it into the other sideand if we put the apple watch here to charge it  should start charging and you’ll see its charging  now if I place my iphone on the other side  it should charge the iphone and it is so its.

Charging both and its only charging at 11 watts  with the adapter so again if I put this on here  you’ve got the sort of animation with the charging  now if you want to charge a little bit faster  again you can use that MacBook air plug you can  use any above this as well you can use all the way  up to the 96 or 97 watt one with the MacBook pro  plug this in and again it should start charging in  just a moment so well detach them put them back  on and again they’re both charging so you get the  little animation like you expect here well  give it a moment to realize it’s not charging  plug it back on and you’ve got the  animation that the watch is charging.

Now if you plug this into say the 18 watt  adapter let’s see if it still charges  now the problem is we won’t be able to measure  how fast it’s going to charge unless actually  timing it so again lets unplug these for  now plug it in and let’s see if it charges so with the 18 watt adapter it looks like it will  charge but we don’t know how fast it’s going to  charge now we can measure how fast it’s going  to charge or at least how much wattage is going  across I do have a meter to measure that so I  thought we’d try that real quick now before we  get started I have a couple different adapters I  thought we’d try so we have the 20 watt we know  what this will charge at according to apple this  is the 18 watt though and it’s not even mentioned.

So if you have an 18 watt from say an 11 pro  or an 11 pro max when you bought that phone  this may or may not work at a  faster speed well try that out  and then of course we already know that the 30  watt adapter will work but there’s third-party  aftermarket adapters that we want to know as well  so I have two here I have the Anker power port atom  pd1 we know that this didn’t work at 15 watts with  the magsafe adapter I did that in a separate test  and then also I have the newer power port 3 nano  from Anker and we know that this works at 20 watts  or 15 watts with the magsafe adapter so this is  compatible so I thought we’d try these out and  see if it makes a difference and also another  thing to know is my phone is cool it needs to  be cooled down and also below 80 charge I did  let it drain a little bit so we could test this  out and see what it’s like so those things are  factors that you need to get the fastest speeds.

Unboxing, Chargers and Everything you wanted to know
So let’s start with the 18 watt again the 18  watt is on my right here well plug it in then  I’ll take a short the shortest I could find usbc  to usbc plug it in well plug it into the top of  the meter and then well plug in the cable from  the magsafe duo so well plug it in like this  its plugged in sometimes you need  to flip it over for it to turn on  there we go well wait for it to turn on and then  well put the phone on it and we can see sort of  what the charging is there its centered its  locked into place and it should start to ramp  up the power so well give it a minute so with the  18 watt adapter were almost getting to 11 watts  of power so were bouncing right around 10.6 10.7  watts you can see down here in the bottom right
if I placed on the apple watch it's going to hamper let’s see.

So I’ll take the apple watch off place it on the charger and let’s see what we’ve got now that that’s charging so now were at 11 watts approximately 11 to 12 watts and typically the watch only charges at a few watt and a half or so when it’s fairly close to fully charged so  that’s about right so were getting very close to  that 11 watt number with this charger using the 18  watt adapter next lets test the power port atom  pd1 this is a 30 watt charger and lets go ahead  and plug it in now we may not get the fullest  speeds based on the charge state of the phones  but let’s go ahead and put this on the charger  and see what we get so were up to 73 percent  on the iphone 12 pro max its nice and cool  let’s see what this charger will do if it  will ramp up to at least 10 or 11 watts so  were at just about 10 watts 11 watts or so  it jumps between 9 and 10 and a half or so.

We’re getting about the same with the power port  atom pd1 and then if we put the watch on it you’ll  see that the actual wattage will change it just  jumped up to 12 or so when the charging the watch  because its only using about a watt and a half  depending on what its charging at now let’s go  ahead and try the power port 3 nano so again  well unplug it place the nano on the charger  unplug everything plug the nano in well let the  meter boot up and again well put the phone on  well give it a moment to charge here there we  go its charging and we’ll let the meter ramp up  and let the voltage or current ramp up so now the  Anker nano 3 is at 13 watts or so were going  up between 12 to 13 watts almost a little bit  more than that and then if I put the watch on.

It to charge at the same time it should bump up  you saw it hit 15 there so it looks like we’re  going to get good speeds out of pretty much  anything here out of the actual adapters  the one I would use is probably the PowerPoint 3  nano from Anker or the 20 watt from apple that’s  probably what I’d go with you probably have one  already if you’ve bought one for your iphone  or of course if you have a MacBook charger  laying around you could use this you wont  get faster than 14 watts even if you go up to  one of the fastest chargers and you really need  to be in a cool environment around 50 percent or  lower to get the fastest speeds and then it will  continue around 11 watts from what I’m seeing so  anything that’s compatible seems to be working  again.

I wouldn’t necessarily go with the older  power port pd1 it doesn’t seem to be an advantage  here but it does seem to charge fine with any of  the other adapters now you can charge your air  pods pro or air pods if you have the wireless  charging case and any qi compatible wireless  charging device so if you put the 11 pro max on  here for example you’ll see that its charging so  were at 85 percent and its charging you cannot  charge the on the watch side and you can’t charge  a watch on the magsafe side so you can charge  anything else though now another thing is if  you have a magsafe phone attached to it and you  lift it up it will bring the charger with it so.

It doesn’t hold itself down its not heavy enough  to do that you will have to physically detach it  that’s not true with the watch though if you have  the watch on it well just plug the watch in here  quickly take the watch off and it will come  right away so just keep that in mind it does  sort of pull the side of this up a little bit  but it seems to be basically a travel charger  that you could put on your nightstand throw in a  backpack or just bring with you wherever and fold  it up when you’re done and throw it in a backpack  or a bag its nice and compact so that parts nice  and hopefully we see more accessories like this.

The AdLib Gold Experience

Greetings folks, and today on LGR I am proud to present the fabled AdLib Gold 1000 Stereo Sound Adapter. An IBM PC-compatible sound card which, after multiple delays, launched at a suggested price of $299 in the US sometime in late 1992. More or less, its release is a bit complicated but we’ll get to that. For now lemme just go ahead and say how much I’m freak in’ out with excitement recording this footage. Cuz dude, seeing an AdLib Gold in person, still in the box, unused? Among retro PC enthusiasts, that’s like finding a golden unicorn that craps diamonds, it’s just not a thing. Yet here it is, looking’ spiffy! And it’s all thanks to Trixter, aka Jim Leonard of The Old-school PC, Check out his YouTube channel if you’re into this kind of thing too, the man’s a fountain of knowledge and some of the items in his collection are literally one of a kind. Not the least of which being this pristine AdLib Gold 1000, a card that I’ve been wondering about ever since I was eight years old lookin...

Apple Keyboard Evolution 1983-2015

I don’t have a Lisa Keyboard, and they’re quite rare and expensive. But here’s what it looked like, it was quite large and clunky. Although not really any wider than a modern Apple keyboard . So, this is the original Macintosh keyboard. It’s kind of tall, and notice that it has no arrow keys, no function keys and no number pad. Apparently, Steve Jobs believed that everybody would use the mouse for everything, except typing. It uses an RJ-11 type connector, similar to a phone cord. The mouse actually had its own separate connector, and did not connect to the keyboard at all. This is about as basic as it gets. I can plug my telephone into it, for some reason. So, one thing I noticed about this is that there are no indicators on where to put your fingers. I’ve never heard a keyboard echo before. It’s not real springy or anything. It does have… …metallic kind of noise to it. But, DAVID: This is the Apple Desktop Bus keyboard. As the name suggests, this was the first keyboard to use the new...

IBM 8516 Touchscreen CRT Monitor

Greetings and welcome to LGR Oddware where were taking a look at hardware and software that is odd, forgotten, and obsolete! And today it is the IBM 8516 CRT touchscreen from the beginning of the 1990s. And yeah you can touch and draw and do all kinds of things that you would normally do with a mouse or light pen or whatever else -- just with your fingers! And so let’s see what this thing is and what it can do. All right so this is the IBM PS/2 Model 8516 13-inch CRT touchscreen monitor first introduced in June of 1991 for a suggested retail price of $1695 US dollars, holy crap. That would be almost $3,100 at the time of this recording, not a cheap price for a 13-inch VGA monitor back then.  It was built by IBM to be compatible with PCs running DOS, Windows 3 -- and IBM OS/2 of course, because they were still pushing it rather hard when this came out. And as advanced and awesome as it was for its time it was not the first of its kind as far as touchscreen CRTs, not by a long shot....

The best gaming laptop for MS-DOS games

The other day, I used to be reading this old Computes Gazette magazine from 1983. and that I saw this card you'll send off for more information. happen if I filled it out and sent it off? Well, stick around till the top and I'll show you the result. Most of the time, stepping into Retro Gaming are often quite challenge. Even the old Atari 2600 her, for instance, it are often very challenging to seek out a contemporary TV or monitor that you simply. On the brilliant side, the games are pretty easy to affect. All you've got to try to to is locate them online, or thrift shop, or whatever and you purchase the sport, and you recognize, But, things get even harder once you start watching old computers. For instance, the Commodore 64 uses a disk format that's essentially foreign today.  It's no means to attach to the web, and albeit you've got a pile of blank disks, getting the games copied over to them from the web could be a nightmare. Now, if you fast forward just a...

Strangest Computer Designs of the '80s

OMG Mr. LGR!!! You made my day showing the Seiko computer watch series. I collect these things and Have almost  the entire lineup up including the weird UC-2200. The only one I'm missing is the "wrist mac" which was essentially a Seiko RC4400 but marketed and sold for Apple. It could be considered the first apple watch! That design for the Elwro-800 actually seems pretty good and I wish I had it for the C64 back in the day. That wire holder could have been used for holding a computer magazine with a user made program which they always had in the magazines back in the day. Even now it would be good for data input from a written copy, or even writers who like to get their pre-writing done on paper. They were the machines we were taught Turing language on -- and compiling even a tiny Turing program on them was unbelievably slow.  I really liked the GUI on them though, but we never really used the GUI much; all the programming we did was in a text file run through a compiler ...

The Advantech I.Q. Unlimited with BASIC and a Z80 CPU.

Hello, and welcome back to the 8-Bit Guy. In this episode, I want to show you this bizarre little computer known as the IQ Unlimited by Advantech. Now, you might be wondering “What is this company Advantech?” Well, if you turn the computer over you’ll see it was actually produced by Video Technology Electronics, otherwise known as V-Tech.” Yes, that’s the same V-Tech that has produced tons of cordless telephones, kids learning computers, baby monitors, and a variety of other things. They are also the ones that built the Laser 128, which was an Apple II clone, along with the matching Laser XT which was a PC clone. They also produced the laser line of portable computers, and even a series of proprietary desktop computers that carried the laser brand name. So, needless to say V-Tech is no stranger to making computers. But, I think this may be the strangest one they ever made. The front of the box claims it to be complete, powerful, simple, and affordable. They are also those that built th...

Words of Krom Ngoy

Words of Kram Ngoy This Brahma song is translated to tell Khmer men and women To be mindful should be diligent. Fast roaming OpenWrt Wi-Fi Access points

Before we start let me do a test. I have my  phone here which measures my Wi-Fi speed and  another phone which I use as a camera in  the other hand. I start on the 2nd floor  where I have an access point. As you can see speed  is quite OK. It won’t go much higher because I  capped it. I’ll explain in a second. Let me start  moving towards the staircase to the 1st floor.  As I do that you can see that the speed goes  down while I walk down the stairs until it starts  moving back up because I picked up the signal  from the 2nd access point here on the first floor.  Let me keep moving down to the basement. It’s  all concrete here so Wi-Fi gets weakened a lot.   But it doesn’t take long until I  get closer to the 3rd access point  here in the basement and speed picks up.  Walking back upstairs - same scenario.  How do I do that so seamlessly without  interruption of signal ? Is it a  Mes...

Will Kill Your Computer

Hey guys, this is Austin, and this is the USB Killer. Now, it might not look like much, however this will straight up kill your computer. So, this is a device that’s used to test hardware, so while it looks like an ordinary USB device, instead, there’s a series of capacitors inside. So, if you plug it into a computer, it will charge those capacitors up, and once they’re full it turns around and releases all of that power at 240 volts straight back into the computer, in theory killing it. It doesn’t take much to be able to pop this thing open. Now, before we proceed: Do not try this at home. Seriously. Not only is it very possible for this thing to kill electronics, but it’s also. And by being careful, I mean don’t try this at home. We have an Asus Chrome book.  Now, USB Killer claims that this is going to work on around 95 percent of computers, and the reason for that is that while some computers have properly capped USB ports, most have completely unprotected ports, which means th...
